Basics on Data Protection Law Part 1 (Course F)

This workshop addresses the basics of data protection and its relevance to the handling of research data

The participants will learn about the basics of data protection and gain awareness for which research projects and questions the data protection law is relevant. The participants will know when the support of the data protection and information security officers of the University of Basel is required in order to sufficiently guarantee data protection in a research project. The aim of the workshop is to enable data stewards to support researchers in simple data protection issues. The workshop is a repetition of course E in November 2023.

This is the first part of a two-part workshop. The first part covers the theoretical basics of the data protection law, which are applied in the second part by discussing concrete research projects.

Part 1: Theoretical introduction, 04.03.2025, 14:00-16:30
Part 2: Exercise, 18.03.2025, 14:00-16:30 (Link)

Trainer: Loredana Martignetti (Deputy Data Protection Officer, University of Basel)

Workshop language: English

Data stewards and other members of the university's RDM Network will be invited to this workshop by email. Other people who are interested in attending the workshop are asked to contact the coordinators of the Data Stewardship Program (researchdata@unibas.ch).
